How can rubber seals be damaged?

1. Damage: Rolling friction between the seal and the metal surface damages the seal. DLSEALS tell you about the purifiers (especially metal particles) in the oil. The metal surface roughness is too high, the installation is too tight and other factors slow down the speed.

2. Gap extrusion deformation: The seal liquefies under high pressure and enters the sealing surface gap. Movement between the seal and the seal groove will facilitate this process. Gap extrusion causes the seal to be completely damaged, with the surface torn or shattered and plastic deformation. Add a sealing ring to prevent extrusion.

3. Rotation: Use lip seals (such as seals in hydraulic cylinders), which are characterized by partial extrusion of the seal from the groove. When the hydraulic machinery is running, the pressure in the seal groove is very high. This pressure acts on the root of the seal, and the root wears. Afterwards, under the action of friction, the seal is turned over and falls off from the seal groove. The sealing lip is cut or crushed, and the seal is completely damaged.

4. Local cracking: The valley part of the lip seal (as shown by the arrow in Figure 2) is a stress part and is easily broken when affected by pressure.

5. Torsion: When the friction force of the lip seal is large during movement, the entire circle or part will change.

6. Eccentric wear: This is one of the secondary reasons for seal damage. The seal itself is fair and the seal support surface is fair. The mating surface of the repeatedly moving parts and the seal is partially calendered and is subject to radial load, causing eccentric wear.

7. Aging of plastic materials: Due to oxidation due to long service life, long storage time or other reasons, the seal becomes hard and brittle, acquires elasticity, and no longer functions as a seal.
